The roles of the Nigerian youths in the emergence of a new Nigeria
Nigeria is a diverse country with a population of over 200million people belonging to one of the over 250 ethnic group. She is ranked as the 27th largest economy in the world in terms of Gross domestic product, Number one (1) in Africa with the largest economy hence the name Giant of Africa.
Nigeria Practices a representative democratic system of government enacted by the 1999 constitution but relative to this,Nigeria's democratic system has no respect for the rule of law.
In October 1960, an act by the British parliament enabled Nigeria gain her independence and the early freedom fighters believed Nigeria will be a key destination for global investment and various public partnership but in retrospect, the Nigeria of today is one without a Durable system of law, institutions, norms and community commitment.
Consequently, the system does not deliver accountability, just law, open government, impartial justice and total transparency. Hence the need for a new Nigeria as in the Nigeria of our dream cannot be overemphasized.
A new Nigeria is one that priories human rights, ensures citizens safety, treats every individual with fairness and equity. The new Nigeria that you and i want cannot be done in a Non-Inclusive system of government.
According to Statista, youths account for 70% of Nigeria's total population but less than 1% are public office holders as youth inclusion and participation is low.
A popular adage says of what use is the head when the root is destroyed, youths are the root ,the bedrock and futute of this country. Youths need to get involved in the political system of this country to bridge the gap between disengaged and unjust political processes. Youths have the ability to create an identity for themselves as well as challenge the status quo of the economy.
In conclusion, we as youths need to unite with one voice to fight for a cause to get involved and to be seen as agents of change. Hence, the emergence of a new Nigeria.
